On 24 September MML suffered a devastating flood. Problems with our flat roof and drainage system meant water gushed through our storerooms. Thanks to a collective effort – MML staff, volunteers, trustees, fire brigade, Islington Heritage – we avoided major damage to our collections.

 

However, this event has given impetus to an urgent programme of works to

  • Restore: Undertake remedial work on the roof, drainage and memorial garden to prevent a repeat event. This will, in part, be covered by our insurance with some additional support from Islington Council.

  • Protect: This is where you come in! We desperately need to enhance the conservation, storage and security of our most vulnerable archives with new storage, monitoring and detection systems.

  • Transform: This appeal will help us to take the first step towards major capital works. We will create a new restricted fund dedicated to redeveloping and enhancing access to our historic building by increasing capacity and installing accessible facilities.

 

We are asking our friends, supporters, members, affiliates to help us in this time of need.

All donors will be invited to a birthday celebration and thank you event.
