This is the third in our Class Struggles, the State and Film series. These four sessions set out to explore the ways in which the state engages in industrial conflict. Each will start with open with a selection of films about a given industrial struggle as the basis for further discussion.

Women were engaged in struggles for equal pay and conditions. This session includes illustrations of the courage and determination of predominantly Asian women during the Grunwick dispute, followed by scenes from the film about Fords Dagenham, pivotal in the struggle for pay parity, and finally the landmark equal pay victory at Trico. Whilst the first two sessions illustrate the workings of the capitalist state, the Fords and Trico struggles shows how gains can still be made.
