About the Role
The Archive and Library Assistant plays a central role in the day to day running of the MML. As part of a small dynamic team, they will assist in making the MML’s collections available and ensuring they are preserved in the long-term. They will play a key part in the administration of the MML’s unique historic collections. Volunteers will be expected to assist retrieving and re-shelving volumes and boxes from the stores for researchers and workshop groups. Under the direction of the Archivist and Library Manager, they will assist with research enquiries, the re-packing of collection, the sorting and listing of archives, and the entry of catalogue records onto our online cataloguing system. Volunteers will also assist in processing donations and selecting and pricing books for our quarterly book sales. This may suit those interested in pursuing a career as an Archivist or Librarian. Training using our cataloguing system – Soutron – will be provided. As appropriate, guidelines on cataloguing library books, periodicals and archives will be provided. Not all Volunteer Library and Archive Assistants will carry out all of the abovementioned tasks; specialisms and preferences, for instance on assisting with research enquiries, on developing guides for particular collections and on book sale preparations, will be encouraged and developed.
