About the Role
The Tour Guide will play a central role showing visitors around our historic building and introducing them to the Library’s history and collections. As the first port of call for many visitors, the volunteer is an ambassador and plays a key part in presenting the MML and our work to a wider public. The volunteer will be at the heart of a friendly, dynamic team. They will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, an interest in history and a keenness to learn more about the MML. A script and appropriate training will be provided. The volunteer will report directly to both members of staff at MML – the Administrator and the Archivist & Library Manager and will be based at MML, 37a Clerkenwell Green, London, EC1R 0DU. They will assist in twice-weekly tours of MML, on open days and on special group visits including school groups, tourists and others. Training and guidance will be provided.

Tasks and Responsibilities
•    Show groups of up to ten visitors around the MML using a script to inform them of the MML’s history, collections and current work
•    Answer any questions of visitors 
•    Refer them to our Administrator for payment and membership enquiries 
•    When appropriate assist with open days and group visits by appointment

Personal Specification
Essential:
•    Good communication skills
•    An interest in the Marx Memorial Library/Marxism/Socialist history
•    An enthusiasm for work as an ambassador for the MML
Desirable:
•    Previous experience as a tour guide
