The Petrograd Defence of 1919.
The Red Army enacted military operations which aimed to protect Petrograd in May-December 1919. General Denikin, having captured a lot of the south and Ukraine, marched onto Petrograd from the south, in conjunction with General Yudenich marching on Petrograd from the north, with help from Estonian troops. Although the Whites were defeated, this would prove to be the closest the White Army would come to actually tipping the Civil War in their favour.
