ALEXANDRA KOLLONTAI
Kollontai was a socialist feminist active in the working class women’s movement and an ardent campaigner within the Bolshevik Party to ensure that its theory and practice reflected the needs of women. She wrote much on this theme. She was intensely involved in both 1917 revolutions and although part of the government after October, she became critical of its direction and in 1921 was part of the Workers’ Opposition. From 1924 she worked as a Soviet diplomat (in Mexico, Norway and Sweden) for many years.
