Back to topIn addition to its library and archive collection, the MML also holds a significant number of artefacts relating to the history of the working class movement.
We have over 20 banners with particular strengths in the Aid Spain movement and the Print Unions. The majority of our ceramic collection - totalling over 200 pieces - was donated to us firstly, by James Klugmann - his collection dates back to the Peterloo Massacre in 1819, and secondly from John Hendy QC - whose collection is dedicated to the 1984-5 Miners' Strike.
Other treasures include Karl Marx's cigar case and a bust of Lenin originally owned by Shapuriji Saklavala. Many of these can be viewed in our display cases on our twice weekly tours.
